Great artists, great book: The Upset

Out now: The Upset, a new book by Gestalten Verlag, is a great documentation of "a new breed of contemporary artists". It features a massive bunch of established and emerging young artists, among them plenty of whom we have been working with for years: Casey McKee, moki, FriendsWithYou, to name a few. Highly recommended.

Deichkind at the Bieberhaus

New artworks in our shop!

We have updated the shop section of this site - and even if "shop" ain't the best way to name it, that is the place where you can find all available artworks from our artists.

We just added new watercolors by Boris Hoppek, and new work from Neasden Control Centre, Alex Diamond, Casey McKee, Antonio Santin, 56K, and Lena Schmidt.

Also, but only for a limited time only, you can find some exhibits from the 5 years heliumcowboy-show by Akane Kimbara, Aleksej Mirni, Jim Avignon, Patrik Farzar, Rinzen and Thomas Markus Schumann.

Jon Burgerman wants you.

Next saturday, August 30, we will open our next exhibition at the gallery (Sternstraße 4!), presenting Jon Burgerman's first solo show in Germany. And for this, Jon asks the people from Hamburg for their participation:

Jon Burgerman wants to help draw out the apparitions lurking in your everyday objects and exhibit them as part of his exhibition. Simply drop off a household object at the gallery before the show opening between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. (mon - fri) to be part of the exhibition (you may also contact us before: 040-484 088 60 or 0175-22 44 088).

Jon will take these objects, access their paranormal worth and customise them accordingly. The objects should be no smaller than a matchbox but no bigger than a cat. Once the exhibition has been completed you can return to the gallery to receive a random object as donated by someone else.

The doors are closed at Bieberhaus.

Our huge anniversary show has come to an end. It was a fantastic experience and we are very happy and proud that we got such a great show together on our fifth birthday.

Thanks again to all who participated in the show and all who supported and visited the exhibition!

Now we will take evyrthing down and move back to our Ranch, the heliumcowboy artspace in Sternstraße 4. Already at the end of this month (august 30th, 8 p.m.), we will open our next exhibition featuring British artist Jon Burgermann. More information when you go to "exhibitions" on this site.

What a night! The heliumcowboy crew and our artists would like to thank all who came - we stopped counting at way over 1000 guests ... I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did, despite the long cue at the entrance. Big thanks also to the Area Boys for their fantastic live set, and to DJ Sdag, and and and. All of you helped us make it the best celebration of our anniversary at the Bieberhaus we could imagine ...

The Bieberhaus Diaries: Neasden leaves his mark

Now, the progress is more easily visible: yesterday, moki put up her 8 meter long worm under the ceiling. The first painting (also by moki) is up, still under bubble wrap. Stephen Smith / Neasden Control Centre has left his first marks on the walls, and also his watchtower is being rebuild.

5 years heliumcowboy artspace - the work has begun.

Beginning of this week, we started moving into the location for our big anniversary show. The office furniture has been built, the staircases are secure, the first walls set up. Still tons of garbage to carry out in the trash, still 20 meters of walls to be set up, still so much to do before the grand opening on the 12th of july.

We will try and keep you posted at the site about the developments, it is great to see the rooms change and things shape up...

DARE: new magazine launched

It is not just because they feature a big interview with our gallerist, Jörg, inside. It is also not because they invited Jörg to speak on the panel at their launchparty last weekend at Westwerk. Or that heliumcowgirl Veronika supplied the photo for the artwork on the cover. Or that it is full to the brim with a lot of artists we admire. No, we really do feel that this is one of the freshest, strongest, best designed, outstandingly written and ... simply most remarkable art publications we held in our hands in a long, long time: the new DARE magazine is out! Issue number 2, titled "Hype", features stories with and about artists, movers and shakers from the art scenes of Hamburg and Berlin.

No New Enemies Group show in Brussels

From May 7 - 18, (daily from 6 - 12 p.m.), No New Enemies presents a bunch of fantastic artists from their network at Le Botanique Museum in Brussels during the annual music festival.

With music from Scratch Perverts, Why, Morcheeba, Jamie Lidell, Bun Zero and more than 30 other acts NNE will get those feet moving by welcoming visual artists from their network to town.

heliumcowboy artspace is represented with 3 artists: Boris Hoppek, Neasden Control Centre (colaborating with Will Barras), Alex Diamond, and also fellow artists from our current show in Hamburg, BO130, microbo, Morcky and TheBoghe are also here.

That's why we will be relaunching our site soon, say within the next couple of weeks. It's going to be a massive work, but hey, that is the story of our lives here at heliumcowboy ...

During this time, this site will remain fully functional, so nothing changes until we are done ... changing.

Alex Diamond - exhibition extended / new work

Alex Diamonds' current show, "Love Me With A Gun To My Head", will be extended for one week, until January 25. We are also showing some completely new and again different works, which Diamond created originally for the SCOPE art fair in Miami. A few of them have come back now and are on display in the gallery.

Because Alex ist already involved in his next big project - a solo presentation of a new installation in New York in march, there will be no finissage for this show. Come around during this or next week during our opening times (wed - fri 11 a.m. - 7 p.m.) to take a last look at the show before we take it all down again.

Antonio Santin - one to watch for 2008...

In October 2008 (that is about exactly one year from now :) we'll be showing an extraordinary young artist from Spain, Antonio Santin. If you are in Stuttgart right now, you should check out his exhbition at Zero Arts e.V., Ostendstraße 16. The show is titled "naturaleza muerta" and runs until November 11 (open tuesdays - thursdays 3 to 8 p.m.).

86 negritos: Boris Hoppek in Cadiz.

Until September 23, Boris Hoppek shows his largest to date monothematic exhibition "86 negritos" at a fortress at the coast of Cadiz (Spain). Inspired by the german nursery rhyme "10 kleine Negerlein" (10 little negroes), Boris tells the sad story of african refugees dying at the coast of spain throughout the the museum in Sculptures, Paintings and interactive Installations.

"86 negritos" is a museal drama about racism and immigration politics. And a real refugee boat, filled with 86 cardboard sculptures, is swimming in the rough sea outside the fortress...

The death of an artwork: A horror-movie.

Well, you may have wondered what we should be doing with the large cardboard sculpture by Boris Hoppek for his last exhibition "I won't fuck with you tonight" after the show closed end of may. The sculpture was about 4.60 meters high and aprox. 3 meters in diameter, and our gallery doors are way to small for that. So if a buyer is interested, Boris rebuilds it at the final location, as we could only save the head from being destroyed...

NYC here we come: No sleep till Brooklyn

We have been invited to show at the scope art fair for contemporary art in New York, February 22 - 26. So right now we are deep in preperation for our next trip overseas, selecting and wrapping up fresh works by the artist we'll take abroad this time ... a fresh angle guranteed, we will not simply repeat our presentation from Miami last December, but add a fresh and extensive highlight on Neasden Control Centre and Nina Braun, alongside our beloved ones Boris Hoppek, moki, Alex Diamond, Patrick Farzar and FriendsWithYou. Be prepared.
