> 02.2004.: NOTART
mario kleinschmidt was born in flensburg. he moved to the countryside in schleswig, occupating an old barn close to the schlei, where he developed his skills as an object artist and craftsman, before he moved to hamburg to open his own artist space, the musarium in hamburgs karoviertel, which closed shop in 2002. since 2003 he works partly at his "notart practice" at the sternstrasse 4 and party in his huge studio barn in lindaunis/schlei.
mario kleinschmidt is an extremely skillfull artisan, mechanic, builder, tiler, welder, etc., working with everything from huge steel sculptures to small toys. he is a deconstructer and assembler, full with brilliant ideas and aesthetic visions that are disturbing and humourous at the same time. with an optimistic irony he reflects everyday life without taking sides. he is a narrator and observer - an artist capable of telling stories within every detail of his affectionately build objects.
mario kleinschmidt exhibited at the heliumcowboy artspace in february 2004, presenting his "notart"-emergency room. due to the limitations of the artspace (in size!), he worked with smaller objects, converting the gallery into a medical installation using kids rag dolls, computers, tv-sets and a selfmade motorcycle (the notart-emergency vehicle with a sidecar for either nurses or patients).
