    > 05.2005.: nina braun

Nina Braun has successfully merged a background in fine arts with the „real world“, using her experience in skateboard-fashion and the tough business demands of the market for young labels for her distinct conversion of todays values and trends into artistic statements. Not being fully (but partly) trained at an Institute for Fine Arts has helped Nina becoming the complete artist she is today: focused on the highly actual topics she choses for her works, determined, passionate and trained in the skills not usually being part of traditional studies and at the same time being an expert painter, illustrator and craftswoman.

In may 2005 we held the first solo show of Nina Braun, "sneak like a panther", displaying not only her rich body of paintings, stitchings and tapestry, but also for the first time her latest artistic concept, the hand-knitted replicas of classical sneakers – Nina’s strong, iconic and ironic comment on the skateboard and Hip-Hop-generation that she has been a vital part of since founding her own all-female skater-label, SUMO clothing.

Her 2005 show gained huge interest from the media (art and lifestyle alike), and massive requests for Ninas work from around the world. The exhibition has been invited to Paris afterwards, and her story and images have been presented in countless international online-magazines and websites. A selection of her knitted trainers have been on world tour with a US-based leading urban art-event focusing on the sneaker-culture („sneaker pimps world-tour“).

As a follow up, Nina Braun will be presented in her second exhibition at the heliumcowboy artspace in june 2006.
