On may 19, we opened the White Cube with an exceptional exhibition by artist Thomas Markus Schumann. Despite the terrible weather conditions and our (purposely) limited space lots of people visited the show "Es sollte eine schöne Familienfeier werden" ...

Up until the last minute we prepared the exhibition room (image above), introducing our new concept of the White Cube within the heliumcowboy artspace.

Starting at 7, the opening continued until 4 o'clock in the morning, with a continuous stream of visitors. We supplied 10 black umbrellas for guests who didn't find space inside but still wished to linger on and celebrate with the artist and listen to the excellent single collection of La Petite Cou-Cou on her small portable record player (above left).

Thomas Markus Schumann played thoughtfully with the small exhibition space, showing one larger painting ("Einem toten Mann die Frau retten"), embedded within an installation of toys, lampions and a popcopy-magazine stand (above).

The second part of the show was a performance by the artist, who publicly drank a bottle of 1996 Vintage Dom Perignon (alone), which he re-branded with a unique copied label made by Schumann specifically for the show. Afterwards, the emptied bottle was placed within a display and sells now for the same price the original Dom Perignon was bought for - 99 Euro.
(for information on buying the exhibited artwork by Thomas Markus Schumann please contact the gallery - or come by and visit us until thursday daily from 2 - 7 p.m.).

We are very pleased with the positive reception of our White Cube-concept, which was never intended to making fun of gallery traditions or our guests. On the contrary, by the reduction to the minimum possible we allowed for a fresh and unique view on exhibitions and vernissages.

A week later we were taking down the installation of the White Cube again, but will set it up throughout the summer for approx. 6 weeks with alternating shows by various artists who are eager to explore the potential of the exhibition space.
More information about the july and august shows in the White Cube are following soon on this website.
