McKee’s process is a combination of photography and painting. First creating the photograph, then printing it onto the surface (canvas, wood panel, hand-made paper, etc.) by use of a photographic emulsion. McKee spends the majority of time working with oil paint to bring out the desired expression in his works. To experience the works in person is to realize the depth, layers and subtlety created with the oil paint married to the photographic emulsion. The final work is neither a photograph, nor a painting, but something directly in between with the qualities of both.
His upcoming exhibition in Hamburg is titled "9 to 5" and shows the latest development of his Businessmen-Series, started in 2005 with “Corporate warfare” (heliumcowboy artspace) and continued with "Milking the Cashcow", which took place in Frankfurt this Summer. Casey McKee’s interest in the World of Economics is to expose its inherent inhuman conventions. After the general fighting scenes of “Corporate Warfare”, "9 to 5" takes the competing Businessmen onto the next level – and into the boxing ring.

Born in Phoenix Arizona and currently residing in Berlin, Casey McKee has exhibited his work throughout much of the United States including: New York, New York; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Scottsdale, Arizona; Atlanta, Georgia; Minneapolis, Minnesota and Chicago, Illinois; as well as London, England. Since his first show in Germany at the heliumcowboy artspace in 2005, Casey McKee had solo shows in Frankfurt (Galerie Greulich) and Berlin (DNA).
In addition McKee’s work has been collected by several major and private museums. Two Museums are currently showing McKee’s artwork in high profile group shows: The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona and the Landesmuseum Johanneum/Neue Galerie Graz, Austria.

Der heliumcowboy artspace präsentiert bereits zum zweiten Mal den Künstler Casey McKee.
Der seit zwei Jahren in Berlin lebende Amerikaner aus Phoenix, Arizona, stellt seine Bilder seit Jahren in führenden Galerien hauptsächlich in den USA (u.a. in New York, Santa Fe, Scottsdale, Phoenix, Atlanta, Minneapolis) und London, aber auch mit wachsendem Erfolg in Deutschland aus. Seine Arbeiten sind in wichtigen Sammlungen privater Museen in den USA vertreten und wurden in zahlreichen Magazinen (Art News Magazine, San Francicsco Weekly, Style & the Family Tunes, Brigitte, u.a.) veröffentlicht.
Momentan werden Casey McKees Werke gleich in zwei verschiedenen Museen gleichzeitig gezeigt: Im Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona und im Landesmuseum Johanneum / Neue Galerie Graz, Österreich.
„9 to 5“ wird der Titel seiner Ausstellung im heliumcowboy artspace lauten, die sich thematisch nahtlos an seine diesjährige Ausstellung „Milking the Cashcow“ in Frankfurt am Main anschließt. Casey McKees Interessengebiet ist die Welt der Wirtschaft und ihre oft menschenverachtenden Gepflogenheiten. In „9 to 5“ wird sein Thema in Form von Geschäftsmännern, die sich Boxkämpfe im Ring liefern, Ausdruck finden.
Der Arbeitsprozeß McKees beginnt mit einem Fotoshooting, das aufwendig in einer speziell
ausgesuchten Location und mit ausgewählten Statisten inszeniert wird. Seine Fotoserien belichtet er in der Dunkelkammer meist großformatig auf unterschiedliche Materialien (Leinwand, Holz, selbstgeschöpftes Papier), bevor er sie mit Schichten von Ölfarbe, Lack und Firnis bearbeitet und sie so Textur und Farbe gewinnen. Durch die Bearbeitung der Fotos mit Ölfarbe verfeinert er seine Arbeiten und erreicht so den gewünschten Effekt. Es entsteht eine Mischung aus Foto und Gemälde. Die Arbeiten an der Boxserie, die er im heliumcowboy artspace zeigen wird, laufen auf Hochtouren und man darf der Show gespannt entgegen blicken.
