ARTISTS SUBMISSIONS | KÜNSTLER-BEWERBUNGEN

The heliumcowboy artspace is currently not looking for new artists.

However, under certain circumstances we are still accepting applications, but we need them in a special form (see below) and cannot guarantee a reply. If we like it, we will get back ... if it doesn't touch us, irrespective of the quality of the work, you may never again hear of us. This doesn't mean the work is bad, or poor, it just means that it doesn't fit to us. We can still be friends.

BEFORE you send us anything, please check this site thoroughly, visit the artists pages and albums of our past shows, and see how you would fit in. For example, if you're a traditional landscape painter or are just painting as a hobby, we probably will not be interested in your work. We look for artists with the ability to break boundaries and establish the future aesthetic of art - and who are still a bit underground, cutting-edge and ideally with an established audience and record of shows.

in case you are interested in sending us more information, please send it via email only(ideally as pdf, we DO NOT send applications back by standard mail, so NEVER send us originals or valuable printed matter etc.!!!!). If you do not have professional digital quality images and materials, do not send them. We are a professional gallery and we expect you to be professional.

We need the following:

> information about you (personality, sympathy and passion is more important to us than historical records of teachers, universities or diplomas)
> image material (examples) incl. details about technique, sizes, materials etc.
> your approach & motivation as an artist
> if applicable, photos from past exhibitions, giving us an idea of how you usually present your work
> if applicable, references from buyers, exhibition makers, galleries, artists, the press
> a quick draft of your idea for a show at our gallery

This may seem a lot, but it doesn't have to be long stories. Be yourself.

Please do not call the gallery to see if we have received your mail or to fix an appointment. If we are hooked by what you are doing, we'll contact you.

And, again: We do not possess the time nor the resources to provide feedback or a critique of your artwork. A rejection is not a reflection of the quality or integrity of your work. There are many factors that dictate what we show, so please do not take it personally if you don't make it onto our calendar.

Starting Tuesday, May 2nd, Antonio Santín will be part of a group exhibition in London's ROLLO Gallery. Titled "The influence of photography in painting", the exhibition includes works by Antonio, Tiina Heiska and Andrew Hollis.

"ROLLO Contemporary Art presents a group exhibition of international painters whose works display a relationship to the photographic medium. The works by these artists remain inherently 'painterly'; displaying confident application of paint and visibly bold brushstrokes, yet in a variety of ways these paintings create a dialogue with photographic practice and place painting within a larger context of imagery."

This Friday, May 22nd, starting at 7.30 p.m., the organisers of "Stickeraward" will present the first issue of their new sticker-magazine "Klebstoff" at our gallery. This unique new publication contains only peel-off stickers - each and every graphic can be taken off the pages and pasted to ... whatever you choose. 24 artists from around the globe have contributed over 100 stickers.

The "Klebstoff"-Team will hold a presentation about the magazine and stickers. And guest speaker Alain Bieber, editor at ART magazine, talks about subversive strategies and the power of stickers, and presents his project "Gute Seiten - curated kiosk & magazine club".

These kids rule: congratulations to the basketball youth of Hamburg's ETV Sports Club for becoming undefeated (!!!) champion in their division last weekend after their first season (M12 = below the age of 12) under coach Erkan Alkasi. heliumcowboy sponsored the first set of jerseys, including a fresh team-logo designed by S-Fly from the kingdrips-crew.

"I teamed up with the heliumcowboy crew in New York to create a new installation / interactive artwork at the SCOPE art fair New York. Jointly we set up the Lossy Data Lab, a special art laboratory researching lossy data; what is it and where it goes. This was done through questionnaires, word association games, psychological profiling, spacial awareness tests and using cutting edge, specially designed technical equipment. Artworks based on the results of the various tests were created during the fair in our science center. Further analysis and reports will be generated following on from the involvement of the visitors to the Lab. Several lab rats did escape during the week but most were returned to their cage unharmed."

After a week of hardcore building and renovating, we have moved this weekend into our temporary residency at the Bieberhaus, Hachmannplatz 2. The next weeks we will make it cozy and nice in there, and prepare for the big opening on May 2nd with Boris Hoppeks' new solo show "Popo".

Click on "continue reading ..." below for more images of the progress in the new space. Later this year we will move again within the same building and under the same adress. We will start once our final new gallery space get's ready for us to work in.

Here's where it is:

When the gallery opened in 2003, the aim was to establish a place to conceive, show and experience art that is made by and for people living in the here and now; educational or social backgrounds were never in the thought process. On the contrary, qualifications are only our shared battles in life and the complex absurdities this ride presents.

Consequently, the heliumcowboy artspace is run as a hub for contemporary life rather than a simple and clean place to present vacuum protected art.

Since the beginning, our motto (and ethos) derives from an old 70ies song: “A cowboy’s work is never done”. This in mind, we at heliumcowboy tirelessly support young artists by giving them the space and opportunity to fully explore their talent at exhibitions, fairs and consequently on the market that eventually will feed them.

Jointly, we are getting our hands and minds dirty with the work on a shared goal: to establish a new breed of artists and a unique and probably the most contemporary form of emerging art today.

This said, our exhibitions are very distinctive in the presentation of art. We don’t strive to make cool art parties; we much rather support our artists in creating an environment that re-invents the concept of exhibiting and developing art shows that may be considered authentic in their reflection of our society and selves.
