New gallery director: Frida Mindt joins heliumcowboy

Frida Mindt has arrived. Photo by Nils Hasenau

If you've been following us a bit closer you've probably realised that heliumcowboy had quietened down a little bit lately. After being one of the european pioneers of a new breed of galleries and being recognized as a top 100 artspace globally for over a decade, we calmed our classic gallery business down a notch or two in 2011.

Well. Expect us to get louder again -  and welcome Frida Mindt, our new gallery director, to the Ranch. More about her can be found here, and while all good things still need a while, stay tuned for our next ventures (and subscribe to our newsletter if you aren't on the list yet).

In the last two summers our man of the Leica - Jo Fischer - travelled with some of his buddies to the legendary french bike festival 'Wheels & Waves" in Biarritz. Armed with his camera, he portrayed the event with all of its characteristic people and drivers. The outcome of this documentary is his brand new photo book "Wheels & Waves", that he will personally release this Friday in Berlin at the Harry Damson Speed Shop and this Saturday in Hamburg at Vater & Sohn.

The book is available online here, and we will also have a few signed copies at the gallery.

20.02., 7 p.m., Berlin: Harry Damson Speed Shop
21.02., 7 p.m., Hamburg: Vater & Sohn

Jo Fischer will be in attendance at available for book signings at both events.

Our gallery founder Jörg Heikhaus is an author for the Hamburg-blog of Germany's biggest weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. He writes mostly about art, obviously. In german.

His latest article just launched today:

Let's talk about art

Interview with Julia Benz on vantagepointradio.com

The fabulous Julia Benz  has been talking to the guys from Vantage Point Berlin, and we can only highly recommend listening to the full interview at vantagepointradio.com. It is a great and very charming insight into her world of painting, travelling and making a name for herself in the contemporary art scene as one of the most exciting female artists emerging from Germany today.

We are very happy to announce that Julia will be exhibiting with us at heliumcowboy in September this year in her first solo show in Hamburg. More about this very soon.

Elmar Lause & Alex Diamond
We'll start off this week with an artist talk on Tuesday, Dec 12 (7 pm). Moderated by Judith Waldmann, manager of the Affordable Art Fair Hamburg, we invite visitors to chat with Marie Suberg & Larissa Kerner from ADAMEVA, Elmar Lause and Jörg Heikhaus aka Alex Diamond.
Throughout the week, Elmar Lause and Alex Diamond will paint live at the store. We will create a unique studio scenario, allowing the artists to work face-to-face with two large-format canvases between them. Knowing the fine humour of these two guys and the friendship among them, we expect this to be a very entertaining week for the visitors of the Mercedes Me Store ...
The finished artworks will be presented at the end of the week at the vernissage of Elmar Lause and Alex Diamond, which will also mark our final event of the #heliumcowboytakeover at the Mercedes me Store on December 19.
